Motorized Iris Diaphragm – buy in Israel

Building on the success of a previously introduced motorized iris, we developed the Motorized Iris Diaphragm Mount. It is specifically designed for our smallest diaphragm family. While more information on compatible iris diaphragms is available upon request, it’s important to note that these diaphragms cannot be interchanged by the user. Each one requires a unique adapter ring and calibration.

Here are 10 products that are similar to a motorized iris diaphragm:

Products with similar function but different operation

  • Manual Iris Diaphragm: The most direct alternative, this device has the same blade design as a motorized version but is adjusted manually with a lever or a ring.
  • Motorized Beam Shutter: While an iris controls the size of the light beam, a shutter’s primary function is to block or pass the entire beam. A shutter provides a full on/off control, similar to a camera shutter, but often with high-speed actuation.
  • Variable Aperture: A general term for any device that can adjust the size of an opening to control light. This can include non-iris-style designs, such as those made with two or more overlapping blades.
  • Neutral Density (ND) Filters: These filters reduce the intensity of light without changing the color. While they don’t adjust the beam diameter, variable ND filters consist of two polarizing filters that can be rotated relative to each other to change the amount of light transmitted. This achieves a similar effect to an iris diaphragm in terms of light level control.

Other related optical components

  • Pinholes and Fixed Apertures: These are static versions of an iris diaphragm. They have a precise, fixed-size opening and are used to clean up a laser beam or act as a spatial filter.
  • Slit Apertures: Instead of a circular opening, a slit aperture has a long, narrow opening. A motorized slit can be used to control the amount of light or to scan a beam.
  • Motorized Linear Stage with a Fixed Aperture: A motorized linear stage can move a component, such as a fixed-size aperture, into or out of a beam path. While not providing a variable opening, it can be used to block a beam or select from a series of different apertures mounted on the stage.
  • Optical Chopper: An optical chopper is a rotating disk with cutouts that periodically interrupts a light beam. It’s used to modulate the beam at a specific frequency for lock-in detection, which is a different function than an iris diaphragm’s, but it’s another form of light control.

Technological variations

  • Piezoelectric Iris Diaphragm: Instead of a traditional stepper or DC motor, this type of iris uses a piezoelectric motor. This allows for very high-resolution, fast, and repeatable positioning of the aperture blades.
  • Galvo Mirror: A galvanometer mirror is a fast-moving, motorized mirror that can be used to steer a laser beam. In a sense, it can “steer” the light away from a sensor or target, which can be an alternative to blocking the beam with a shutter or reducing its size with an iris, especially in scanning or microscopy applications.
